Vancouver Open Water Swimming Details

Who can join these workouts?

  • Beginners and experienced althletes are all welcome.
  • You need to be comfortable being in the open water for 60min.
  • Although distance can vary, the workouts often cover over 2000m of distance with loops of 600 to 700 meters.

Meet at the Coach Powell Studio conveniently located on the West side of Jericho Park.

The Studio is located at the South East corner of the building, the entrance is in the South courtyard.

Bikes and bags can be locked securely inside the Studio during the workout.

Parking for the Vancouver open water swimming is free along Marine Drive and also at the rear of the Jericho Hostel building.

Professional endurance coach Andrew Powell has designed every indoor cycling workout with the specific purpose of helping you become stronger and faster and ensure that all of your body's energy systems are properly developed.

Each Vancouver indoor cycling workout starts with a dynamic warm-up including cycling-specific skills and technical-skills coaching. Following the warm-up you’ll be taken through a structured interval-based workout with specific cadence and intensity zones (RPE, heart rate, power).

Bring your own bike

 

You need to bring your own bike. You can attach it to one of the Cycleops SuperMagneto Pro trainers provided, or you can bring your own trainer and save money.

Doing workouts on your own bike helps to improve your neuromuscular coordination by training your nervous system to move in exactly the same pattern as when you are cycling outside. This helps to increase efficiency and ultimately to ride faster.

 

We’ve got the music and the towels!

 

We have a high quality stereo for music, as well as a projector to show videos while you spin. Towel service is also included, so there is no need to bring your own.

If you would like to attend on multiple days each week for the entire season then you need to sign up for each of those days separately. Please note that occasional substitute coaches may stand in for Coach Powell when he is out of town. Sesssions will also continue as scheduled on holidays.

If you need to cancel any sessions, your account will be credited for a free make-up session as long as you cancel through our online booking with a minimum 24 hour notice. Make-up sessions can be booked on any day of the week during the current season and are strictly based on availability with no guarantee.

Join us from May 20th to 22nd, 2017 for a great weekend of triathlon training. Improve your skills and tactics at the Penticton Triathlon Training Camp!

Learn about proper strategy for pacing, training and race nutrition, efficient transitions and much more. All this in a fun and fully supported and professionally coached group setting.

Whether you're training for Challenge Penticton, the ITU World Championships or thinking of doing an Ironman or Ironman 70.3 race in the future, this camp will set you up with the skills that you need to succeed at long course triathlon.

Penticton Triathlon Training Camp Details

Saturday

  • Presentation on Saturday morning in a conference room to go over each part of the bike course and discuss strategy for race morning logistics, bike pacing, nutrition, mental approach, and transition tactics. Race strategy applies to all races. Although we will be focusing on the Challenge Penticton and ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championships course, this will still be beneficial to all athletes who are signed up for other events or aspiring to do a long course triathlon in the future.
  • Ride the Challenge Penticton and ITU course on Saturday. The ride will be fully supported by vehicle with an optional brick run post ride. Distance will vary depending on ability and goals. Expect to be on the road for 4-7 hours or 100+ km's.
  • Group dinner on Saturday night.

Sunday

  • Morning presentation to go over the swim course and run course and discuss logistics, strategy, pacing, nutrition and mental approach.
  • Supported run on the course, distance will vary depending on goals.
  • Coached and supported open water swim practice.
  • Transition practice with proper race transition racks.

Monday

  • Open water swim in the morning.
  • Optional active recovery run.

Accomodation

Accommodation is not included. Although you can stay anywhere that you choose, a group rate has been secured at the Penticton Days Inn Conference Centre, this is also where the morning presentations will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

The presentations will be held at the Whistler Athletes' Centre, rooms can be booked there at a fairly low cost although you can stay anywhere you choose and simply meet there in the morning, the Athletes' Centre is at Function Junction only a 10min drive from Whistler village.
